This is an excellent board for beginners. Sally says l have not used it in the surf or open waters and would not rate it for that purpose, but this board is perfect for gentler waves in lakes, rivers, and flat water. I am 6′ 4″, 240 lbs, and the 6’10” paddle fits me well. This board cruises nicely and is easy to handle once you know how to steer somewhat. The only drawback is that it is slightly heavier than other boards, but I guess that is true of all inflatable boards, and the weight is not a problem. The inflatable paddle board is excellent for beginners, and it is easy to use, is durable, and perfect for the price. I tried this product for the first time a couple of weeks ago in a lake, and I must say that I liked it. The board is comfortable to stand on it, and paddling was pretty simple. You need to practice a little before you go out on the water, but if you know how to paddle a kayak or canoe, everything will be okay.
